Public Speaking, Field Days and Farm Walks

Public speaking at field days and farm walks gives me the opportunity to provide good independent advice to many farmers at once. At the same time, sharing the costs within a group, makes it very cost-effective and the group can ask all sorts of questions - things one person might not think of during an individual consultation.

I have done many public speaking events over the years, including soil management conferences, a BFA Organic Roadshow and numerous grower information nights, focus farm presentations and farm walks. Some of the topics I cover are listed below, but I can easily develop something within the general fields of soil science, plant nutrition and pasture management to suit your specific needs.

Farm walks are especially useful as they offer the flexibility to include other things like sample collection and to discuss test results in detail, etc.

For instance, let's say you are part of a group of just three people with similar interests relating to soil and farm management. If you each booked and on-farm consultation and wanted a soil sample collected, you could expect the following costs each:

• Near Melbourne - $150 + sample analysis
• 300km from Melbourne - $250 + sample analysis
• Somewhere in NSW* - approx. $1,500 + sample analysis

However, if you did exactly the same things as a group (including a visit to each property and sample collection as above), the the total cost would be:

• Near Melbourne - $300 + sample analysis
• 300km from Melbourne - $450 + sample analysis
• Somewhere in NSW* - approx. $1,500 + sample analysis

In each case, the individual cost of a group event is much lower than going it alone, but for places far from Melbourne it works much better as the cost does not increase with the number of people in the group. In the example above, each person in the trio would contribute $500, but add 2 more people to the group and each member then only contributes $300.

Since there are so many things to consider, I don't have fixed costs to work with, but you would like me to do some sort of public speaking event you can start budgeting by going on $300 per day plus expenses. Then just let me know the details of your planned event and I will do a quote for you.
